New surveillance footage shows atrocities in Botja

Surveillance footage from March 3 shows Ukrainian forces in one last desperate position. An hour later, Russian armor rolled along Yablonska Street in the center of Botja.

What makes the new surveillance footage special is that it was located directly opposite the address Yablunska 144, a venue that would soon star in the horrific scenes unfolding at Botja, in what Russian soldiers called a “zachistka,” the purge.

Because Russian forces have set up their headquarters across the street, and this is where Ukrainian investigators believe the first executions are taking place.

– I’m about to go crazy. It has already killed a lot of civilians, says a Russian soldier in a wiretapped phone call.

Certificate of mass executions

The Associated Press wrote that those suspected of fighting or aiding Ukrainian forces were tortured and executed.

Taxi driver Ivan Skiba was one of nine men seen in a surveillance video driving them to Yablunska 144 at gunpoint. He told the Associated Press how, after hours of torture, they were led to the yard where they were shot. But Evan survives because the bullet only hits him in the side.

– They roared and shot those who were still alive. So I remained completely still, otherwise I would have been shot in the head.
