Killers Mr Brightside is considered the UK's unofficial national anthem because everyone in the country knows the song and every pub, bar and club plays the song at some point on most nights. Wherever you turn, Mr. Brightside isn't usually far off, but despite this level of popularity, the song didn't actually chart in country.
In fact, its history of not having a UK No.1 has made it a new record holder. Marking its 20th anniversary, it has been confirmed The Official Chart Company Mr Brightside is now the UK's biggest single, taking over from Oasis' Wonderwall.
The company's figures say the song is a huge hit in the UK, and is actually now the country's third-biggest single of all time, and with this and its incredible run of 408 weeks and counting (over eight years) now on the chart, it's truly astonishing that the song hasn't always topped the charts.
As Killers commented on this insane post: “A big thank you to all our fans for making Mr Brideside the third biggest song of all time in the UK, and the biggest song ever to reach #1; not least yet!”
