This finding provides hope for designing innovative therapies that fight cancer by stimulating cell signaling pathways that promote regeneration of healthy cells and thus suppress the growth of mutant cells, he says. Maria Casper, Research group leader in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institutet and one of the final authors of the study and continues:

Current cancer treatment strategies tend to inhibit cell division and may inadvertently impair the ability of mosaic tissues to maintain their natural defenses against cancer cells.

This study was conducted in the laboratories of Valentina Greco at Yale University School of Medicine and Maria Casper at Karolinska Institutet and in collaboration with Kathleen Cook-Suzzi, associate professor at YSM.
