Attorney Cohen has long been one of Trump’s most loyal staffers. But after serving prison time for tax evasion and lying to Congress, he had a change of heart and became a star witness against his old boss.
Risks of food embargo
Among other things, he called Donald Trump a fraud and a racist. Cohen alleges that before the 2016 election, Trump ordered him to pay women who claimed to have affairs with the then-businessman in exchange for their silence. Trump also allegedly ordered Cohen to lie and say the president knew nothing about the payments.
Now there is a civil fraud trial in the two men’s old hometown. Judge Arthur Engoron has already ruled that Donald Trump and his sons are guilty: by bragging and outright lying about their assets, including the value of real estate, they obtained favorable contracts, lower interest rates on loans, and lower insurance premiums for their companies.
What must now be decided is the size of the fine, whether some property must be given up, and whether Trump family members are subject to some form of business ban in New York.
Donald Trump, who hopes to become the Republican Party’s presidential nominee before next year’s elections, has not yet formally testified in the trial. But he appeared in court and raged against Attorney General Letitia James and the process.

Among other things, Michael Cohen is expected to testify about his meetings with Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg.
Letitia James has claimed that the Trump family introduced the overvaluation of their own assets into the system between 2011 and 2021, thereby significantly enriching themselves and their business operations. It believes that the amount of the fine for this should be at least $250 million, or about 2.6 billion kroner.

Michael Cohen, 57, is a trained solicitor, but after admitting crimes he was suspended from practicing as a solicitor.
From 2006 to the spring of 2018, Cohen worked for the businessman, who later became President Donald Trump. The two men worked very closely, and Cohen became known as Trump’s “aide.”
In August 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to several crimes related to working for Trump, including tax evasion and violating campaign finance laws.
Cohen was sentenced in December 2018 to three years in prison. Due to the Covid pandemic, parts of the sentence were converted to house arrest.
In 2019, Michael Cohen turned himself in and began cooperating with investigators. Among other things, he testified about former President Trump’s actions before the election in 2016. He and Trump have sued each other, and Cohen also wrote a book called “Disloyal” about his time with Donald Trump.
