E Ink introduced a new version of the so-called e-paper, which was named Spectra 6. According to the company, color electronic paper should reproduce images almost as well as a conventional LCD screen.
The advantage of electronic paper over LCD displays is that it requires significantly less power to display objects on electronic paper. Furthermore, the E Ink Spectra 6 should be able to display images at up to 200dpi on electronic paper. Initially, the Spectra 6 was intended for use primarily in static digital billboards. It will probably be some time before we can see e-papers like the Spectra 6 in e-book readers.
Sometime next year, E Ink plans to release digital billboards using the Spectra 6, the company wrote in a press release.
