At least 100 Palestinians were killed and wounded in a bloody raid in the West Bank

Palestinian authorities said that three of the dead and wounded Palestinians were members of organized armed groups, but that the majority were civilians.

The newspaper “Haaretz” reported that the injured were either shot or inhaled tear gas.

The Israeli army frequently raids the occupied West Bank in what it often describes as crackdowns on militant groups. However, the raids were usually carried out at night, when the risk of civilian casualties was lower.

The Israeli army confirms the operation

The Israeli army confirmed that its forces carried out an operation in the city, but did not give further details.

Military sources and witnesses told Haaretz that the Israeli forces surrounded a building where two wanted Palestinians were said to be housed.

Israeli security forces in Jerusalem regularly clash with young Palestinians, often in demonstrations against Israel’s illegal occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Wednesday’s raid sparked one of the bloodiest battles in the area in nearly a year.

There were no reports of any Israeli deaths.

More than 50 Palestinians have been killed so far this year

At least 55 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem this year so far. In 2022, nearly 150 Palestinians were killed in the area, the deadliest year since 2004, according to the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem.
