Last spring, AMD released a new approach to its Fidelity FX Super Resolution upgrade technology in the form of FSR 2.0. The new version introduced a temporal upgrade method, which provided much better image quality than the spatial variant used with FSR 1.0 – something that allowed the technology to come close to competing Nvidia’s DLSS technology in some cases.
However, FSR 2.0 was not without flaws when it came to the image quality offered, especially when the technology was used to upgrade from a relatively low resolution. Some titles, for example, have fairly significant problems with temporal artifacts such as lag (eng. shadows) Objects flash in the distance. This is something AMD is now hoping to improve with the updated version FSR 2.1.0 Update.
The first game to receive support for FSR 2.1 is Farming Simulator 22, with AMD showing off the improvements in a newly posted video as well as screenshots. The game title has infamous lag issues with FSR 2.0, and it appears that these issues have been greatly reduced with FSR 2.1.
In addition to Farming Simulator 22, Hitman 3 will also receive support for FSR 2.1 soon. In addition, the updated technology will also be published open source code As additional components of Unreal Engine.
