The British equivalent to the Swedish Pharmaceuticals Agency – the pharmaceutical and health products regulatory agency, MHRA – believes the vaccine is safe for children and provides them with the best protection against Covit-19. The benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks, the agency’s head, June Rain, said in a statement.
It is now up to British experts to decide whether health officials should go ahead and expand the vaccination campaign to include these ages.
Last week, the European Pharmaceutical Institute (EMA) gave the green light to children between the ages of 12 and 15 to use the Pfizer-Biotech vaccine.
Each member must decide for himself how to proceed.
This week, Italy, Germany and France announced that they would start vaccinating children. In the United States, the vaccine is already given to children.
Sweden has not yet made a decision on the matter.
– We have been running all year and know that at some point we will come to that question. Johanna Rubin told a news conference on May 28 at the Swedish Public Health Institute that it was imaginary that we would have to make a decision in the fall or summer.
