Polarium signs a multi-million dollar agreement with ATC Africa and establishes a new plant

Historically, storing energy for telecom companies and towers has been a costly problem. The majority of mobile sites in sub-Saharan Africa lack access to reliable electricity grids, and thus have had to use costly and polluting diesel generators as their main fuel.
The year 2017 included the Swedish company Polarium A strategic partnership with ATC – one of the world’s largest players in communications infrastructure with nearly 187,000 mobile phone sites – to drive the transition from diesel generators to energy storage based on lithium-ion technology as a power source for ATC’s portable sites in Africa.

The two companies are now taking the next step in their partnership, with a multi-million dollar agreement whereby ATC pledges to purchase additional energy storage based on lithium-ion batteries from Polarium. As a result, Polarium will establish a new plant in South Africa, to secure its delivery of thousands of energy storage solutions to ATC Africa markets in the coming years.

The plant is expected to be operational during the first half of 2022 and produce approximately 100,000 batteries per year, with the potential to increase production to 300,000 batteries per year.
