Adolescents aged 16 years in the high-risk group can now be vaccinated against COVID-19

Adolescents aged 16 years in the high-risk group can now be vaccinated against COVID-19

The Norrbotten District announced on Monday that anyone 18 years of age or over who has an illness or condition that has an increased risk of contracting a serious illness in the Coronavirus can book an appointment to get a vaccine.

It is also now becoming clear that people under the age of 18 who have particularly dangerous conditions may be vaccinated in the county. This comes after the Swedish Public Health Agency supported the recommendations of the Pediatricians ’Association that certain groups of patients between the ages of 16 and 17 should be vaccinated.

Pediatricians collect lists

Anders Nystedt, an infection control physician, announced that Norrbotten’s pediatricians have already started compiling the number that may be relevant.

Pediatricians will be paid according to a list compiled by the Swedish Pediatrician Association. The vaccine to be offered is Pfizer that is approved for people 16 years of age and over.

But not everyone can come and say that you have a risk factor. This is a group that is not part of a vaccination campaign, but these people should be evaluated by doctors in a special arrangement, says Vaccine Coordinator Pia Nasval.

Vaccination in pediatric clinics

Adolescents who may be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination will do so in pediatric clinics. The exemption granted to nurses in public vaccination clinics only applies to people over the age of 18.

What about people under the age of 16?

I wouldn’t be very surprised if vaccines were recommended / offered to younger teens in the future. But that may be a fall question, says infection control doctor Anders Nestead.
