Gustav Johnson is the only Swede in the British FIA Formula 4 series, where young racing talents get the chance to break into the world of Formula cars.

This year, Gustav Johnson retired from the go-kart and took the Formula 4 seat. went well. The 17-year-old from Stora Ursvik can now call himself the “Player of the Year” in Great Britain.
– This season has exceeded my expectations, says Gustav Johnson.
Admittedly, the speed-loving debutant had already set his sights on the rookie title this spring.
However, there was one drawback: when the British FIA Formula 4 series began, he only had time to test the car for four days.
– Most others, even the ones I competed against in the Rookie Cup, probably sat out 60 days.
The series consisted of ten competitive events around Great Britain. Out of a total of 27 contestants, Gustav was the only Swede to participate.
Halfway through the season, he experienced for the first time what it was like to stand on stage.
– A good overtaking out around the second place I caught. But it was a shame that we couldn’t get the top spot because it was decided by just a few meters.
It has come to court
In total, there were three podium places in the “regular” series. Among first-time drivers, there were even more: 24, including eleven first-place finishes.

That was good enough for the rookie title, and Gustav finished eleventh overall.
“Okay,” he thinks. But he did not hide that the top ten would have been better.
– There were really only a few points between me and eighth, ninth, tenth place. Although I wanted to be there, the goal was to “survive” and not make any stupid mistakes and secure the freshman title.
He’s happy anyway. This season probably bodes well for the future. After the wins, both Formula 1 academies and stables from both England and Italy began contacting him.
Next season will be more fun than this year, Gustav believes.
– If we come back next year, we can win the whole series.
