In three years, Nissan wants to build a replacement for the Leaf in the UK. This is evident from an application to the British authorities regarding battery manufacture.
– The Leaf successor will begin production in 2026, according to an application submitted by Nissan to BEIS, the British department responsible for research, energy and climate issues.
Production is planned for Nissan’s Sunderland facility in eastern Britain. The documents also show Nissan expects the majority of cars produced at the facility to be fully electric from 2028.
Nissan has previously said that the replacement for the Nissan Leaf will be based on the CMF-EV platform developed by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.
The CMF-EV platform will be used in the Renault 5 due next year. This platform is specially designed for models in the more compact B segment.
Nissan is visionary in electrification and will introduce 19 new electric cars by 2030. Nissan has shown several concepts of new electric cars in recent years, one of which is the Nissan Chill Out, which could be the inspiration for the new Leaf successor.
