Boris Becker released from prison – now deported: ‘hit rock bottom’

A London court sentenced Baker, 55, in April to 2.5 years in prison after being found guilty of four counts in the case over his personal bankruptcy in 2017.

For the first time, he is speaking now after his prison sentence. In a two-part documentary series on Apple TV+, Boris Becker is seen talking to the camera with tears in his eyes.

– You’ve reached the bottom. I don’t know what to do, he says and continues:

– I will take my punishment, I will not hide or run. I accept any judgment I receive.

The documentary also interviews other tennis icons, such as John McEnroe and Sweden’s Mats Wilander.

It was said at the time of sentencing that he would serve half of his sentence in prison. According to the British news agency Press Association Baker was released after only eight months.

He will be deported from the UK, as previously reported by German media. The information has not been confirmed.

Baker was convicted of concealing millions of pounds of assets – to avoid paying his debts – and of concealing debts. He allegedly diverted large sums of money from his company account, failed to advertise a property in Germany, and concealed a bank loan of just over eight million kroner and contributions to a technology company.

The three-time Wimbledon champion and former world number one has been living in London since 2012.
