Vattenfall Eldistribución has today commissioned a new 130 kV line between Nykvarn in Nykvarn municipality and Almnäs in Södertälje municipality. The line is the first to run in a comprehensive upgrade program of the company’s regional grid to meet the growing power demand in the Stockholm region.
In order to meet the community’s electrification increase and the growth plans of the municipalities of Södertälje and Neckvarn, among others, Vattenfall Eldstrepsion is rebuilding and strengthening the regional electricity grid in the southern Stockholm region. Transformer stations have been built or upgraded and existing power lines from 70 to 130 kV have been built or upgraded.
The new regional grid line and the newly built substation in Manas provide greater capacity and operational reliability in the electricity grid and create conditions for the development of new homes and businesses. The total investment is SEK 160 million and contributes, among other things, to the development of a new business park in Neckarne/Almenas and creates new conditions for industrial development.
– With this line, we connect the regional networks in Sørmland and the southern Stockholm region, providing a more robust and reliable electricity network. The increase in effort creates conditions for new players to establish themselves in the region, while existing industries get the opportunity to expand their operations, says Mats Engstedt, Head of Investments at Vattenfall Eldestination AB.
The management of the regional network in Nykvarn is part of the programme Stockholm capacity, Vattenfall Eldistribution’s comprehensive upgrade program for the regional network in the Stockholm region. In addition to the 5 km pipeline built in Nikvarn, an additional 30 km of Vattenfall Eldistribution’s regional network in the Stockholm region is scheduled to be renovated until 2030. Over the next five years, the company is investing kroner five billion in upgrading and increasing capacity within the framework of Stockholm capacity. The investment means a significant increase in transmission capacity in the electricity grid and allows for continued growth in the region.
