Swedish director Charlotte Brandström returns to direct four episodes of “The Lord of the Rings” Season 2.

When “The Lord of the Rings” was turned into a TV series on Prime Video last fall, Swedish director Charlotte Brandström was behind two episodes. In the second season, he directs twice as much. According to an exclusive to MovieZine, Sauron’s evil will be darker than last time as it spreads across the fantasy land of Middle-earth.

– I think the second season is much stronger, much darker, much more interesting. We have a great environment. It looks absolutely incredible, as usual, says Charlotte Brandström.

– And the funny thing is that now you have established all the characters, then you can enter the drama. There are very dramatic and powerful scenes. I think it will be very exciting. We’re in the UK now and we’re recording in London.

Was the reception of the first season what you imagined?

– It was exactly what I thought it would be. There are a lot of people who really enjoyed the series, while there are also a lot of fans who have already decided that they don’t like it.

Is it clear to you that you’ve agreed to a new season?

– Yes, it was. Our two showrunners are great to work with. We have a great collaboration with them. You bounce ideas back and forth. So that was good. This is a great team.

“Rings of Power” Season 2 began filming last fall. Instead of New Zealand, the sequel was filmed in England, but it looks like we’ll get some Scandinavian vibes from the new surroundings.

– We have changed product designers and are now working with a Dane. And what he does looks absolutely amazing. I can sit and admire all the stones, it’s just like the west coast of Gothenburg, where I usually stay in the summer! In fact, Tolkien’s inspiration was Norway and Scandinavia, and it looks very Scandinavian. He gets a lot of ideas from Scandinavia. New Zealand were also good in the first season, but this one was special.
