Motorola phones tend to have really good speakers thanks to a collaboration with Dolby, who calibrated their speakers. Another example of collaboration is the Dolby Atmos feature, which adapts the sound to what you’re listening to.

You will find the setting in the Dolby app, where you can turn the feature on or off completely. If it’s on, you can choose to have it automatically adapt to the type of content you’re listening to and adjust the settings. You can also select the content type manually. If you’re listening to music, of course, you want it to sound roughly as it was recorded. For movies and games, an ambient sense of sound and spatial space is created with echo effects, and voices are amplified so that you can follow dialogue more easily in noisy environments. For a podcast, of course, the most important thing is to hear the speech.

You can also go in and manually adjust each one, so you choose whether it should be virtual surround sound, and whether it should be an equalizer between the ears or an equalizer that adjusts volume levels at different frequencies.

It doesn’t always look better with Dolby Atmos turned on. If you’re watching a movie, for example, it can be much easier to follow the dialogue, while the background sound effects seem a little distorted at times. Try the function for yourself and see what you think.
