What does the money raised during the cat conference go to?

The conference was organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature in cooperation with the Digital Veterinary Clinic First Fit. For every cat that registers at the conference, FirstVet donates SEK 50 to the WWF’s work to save the world’s endangered tigers.

In order to increase the number of wild tigers, we also need to increase the range of tigers, and here the governments where tigers live must take immediate action. The measures required to be able to save the world’s tigers are to create more protected areas, better managed habitats and implement action plans to restore wild tigers. Trained and equipped park rangers are also an important part here. This goes hand in hand with stopping poaching and the illegal trade in tiger parts. Another important aspect of education is educating the public about the vulnerability of the tiger and its important role in the ecosystem.

• Inventory and monitoring of tigers and their prey
• Move tigers to previous ranges
• Stop poaching and illegal trade in tiger parts
• Influencing decision-makers to increase tiger protection

• Raising awareness among the public to reduce conflicts between animals and People

• Training and equipping park rangers with resources and equipment
• Prevent illegal logging.
• Restoration of pastures for tiger prey

85% of gifts go directly to the cause and 15% to collection and management.

Why do we need to save the tiger?

The tiger is the largest wild cat in the world and is in danger of extinction in the near future. In just 100 years, the number of wild tigers has decreased from 100,000 to just under 3,900 individuals.

Their main threats are poaching and their low habitat, and today they live on less than 5% of their original range. Southeast Asia is particularly vulnerable and risks losing tigers if this is not done in the near future. The tiger has been classified as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List, but thanks to all the work of organizations like WWF, the number of tigers in the wild has increased since 2016, evidence that conservation is paying off.

According to the Chinese calendar, 2022 is the year of the tiger, and it is by chance that this year many decisive decisions are made about the future of the tiger.

WWF always stands by the animals

The WWF is a completely independent, non-partisan environmental and nature protection organization that was founded in 1961 and is funded mostly through donations from the public. The WWF works to stop the destruction of Earth’s natural habitats and build a future in which people live in harmony with nature by halting species extinctions, halving footprints and halting habitat loss.

In Sweden, the WWF was founded in 1971 with the aim of contributing partly to the financing of international operations and partly to allocating funds to Swedish research, education and practical activities for nature conservation. WWF stands for World Wide Fund for Nature. Today, the WWF Swedish office largely operates under its own auspices and under four divisions: Forests and Species, Food, Climate and Energy, Society and Business Development, and Seas and Water. The main mission is to protect biodiversity and facilitate the sustainable use of natural resources, both in Sweden and globally.
