This is how Norwegian gas preserves heat in winter

By 2027, the EU should be completely independent of Russian energy, a painful start to that journey. In Norway, production has increased and prices have quadrupled since July last year.

– In July, we delivered 17 percent more than last year. It means we are doing our best. We now offer the winter volume in the summer, says Frod Leversund.

In Germany, where people are now shivering before a cold winter, German Chancellor Olaf Scholes met with the Norwegian Prime Minister earlier this week.

– We do everything we can to deliver in line with our tradition of being a trusted partner, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Karstor said during a press conference.

“Norway is very important”

In 2017, COSCO delivered 117 billion cubic meters of Norwegian gas to terminals in Great Britain, Belgium, France and Germany. Frode Leversund believes this could be a new record.

– As it seems now, we will definitely end up around those numbers, or maybe even above them, Leversund says.

Last year, Norway exported 113 billion cubic meters of gas, which corresponds to 1,250 terawatt hours, according to Leversund. This can be compared to Swedish electricity production in 2020 158 terawatt hours.

– We are talking about large amounts of energy, and gas is very important, especially in the situation Europe is in now.
