Thobias Montler seemed to have missed a medal in the long-distance final in Munich.
But in the last jump for the Swede, Muntler took a bronze.
Montler jumped 8.06 – the same distance as the runner-up from Great Britain, Jacob Fincham-Dakes.
Fincham Duke’s first jump measured 8.06. But in the replays, it was difficult to determine whether the Briton’s jump was correct.
After the competition, the Swedes filed an appeal against the jump.
– Friends at home were the ones who sent the pictures, I fell for all kinds of people. And you can see in the TV pictures that it’s a clear transgression, says coach Yannick Tregaro.
Muntler: “Small Margins”
The protest was successful – Thobias Montler was forced to take a step on the podium.
– I was still happy with the bronze, but I was so happy when I found out it was going to be a silver. Those are the small margins, Muntler says.
Montler knew nothing about overtaking during the race.
– I didn’t want to tell him that during the competition. It wasn’t good for him to focus on that, says Tregaro.
Mounts:
– I liked it, it was still cute. I discovered it right after my last jump.
Suffering with Fincham Docs
After the Swedes’ protest ended, the Briton ended up in fifth place, and Jules Pomery finished in third.
Montler struggled with Fincham Docks after losing his silver.
– I told him about the protest and he knew it. Then we did not say more. You didn’t know how things would turn out, Montler says, but it’s boring for him of course.
The championship medal is the first outdoor long jump.
– It ranks very high. I am so happy.
I mentioned at the same time Weekly athletics Just before midnight he was sent by the British in counter-protest.
Greek Miltiadis Tentoglou won 8.52 – a new record for the tournament.
