Olympic gold for Sweden – Edin team wins big thrill against Great Britain after the jury

The Swedish team Edin is one of the leading curling teams in the world. They have won everything they can win in recent years, except Olympic gold. In Beijing, they had only one goal in mind – to take home the most classic Olympic medal.

The desire for revenge made Edin

In Pyongyang four years ago, the Edin team lost to the United States in the final and finished second. So, it’s a vengeful Sweden, it has four more years to put itself together. And the team game was a huge success. Edin’s team has won six games in a row and when it became clear they had reached the semifinals, the thoughts were completely two days ahead. Because then Sweden ended the last two group matches with defeat and faced Canada in the semi-finals.

It turned out to be a real nail-biter and Sweden won after a very low scoring story. Edin led the team for most of the semifinals, but chose to defend it instead of expanding. The trick was clear from the Swede who wanted to play with only the last stone in his favor. After eight rounds, it was 4-3, but with the decisive stone in the final round, the Edin team took a point and took the final spot.

Then came the fierce opposition that awaited – Great Britain, which along with Sweden was the most favorite for the Olympics.

The final was also a low-scoring affair. Great Britain took the first point, but before the seventh round, Sweden had a modest lead of 3-2. Edin then had the best chance to score several points. With the last stone, Sweden had to remove the British stone which was the best and take a full five points. Then Nicholas Edin did not get it, but the English equalized 3-3.

In the eighth round, the Edin team took a 4-3 lead again. With the final stone in the ninth round, Britain had a chance to go to a point, or retain the advantage for the decisive round. Then I chose to go to zero points and when the last eight stones were rolled it turned into a real thriller.

Sweden started the last round carefully and stopped several guards while at the same time they were able to get a stone into the nest. Edin’s team was in command throughout the final round, and Great Britain generally had to respond to Sweden’s play.

But Britain can respond with points and the whole thing will be decided with a referee round. With the last stone, the Edin team made no mistake and captured the long-awaited Olympic gold.
