An error causing data leakage has been detected in Safari. Unauthorized people can see which sites users visit

Security researchers have discovered a flaw in Apple’s Safari browser that allows the browser to leak data about the sites a user has visited. The bug also allows some personal data related to Google accounts to be leaked if the user is signed in with one during the browsing session.

The error is due to a bad implementation in IndexedDB, a programming interface (API) that stores data in the browser. Thanks to the error, an unauthorized person can see the web pages that the user visited during the browsing session. However, it is recommended that the user visit a web page developed to exploit the bug.

If you run Safari 15 on macOS, iOS, or iPadOS, you can see a demo of how the error works at the link below. Nowadays it cannot protect itself from error. Safari users will simply have to wait for an update from Apple as we hope the bug will be fixed. In the video above, FingerprintJS, the company that discovered the bug, talks a little more about how the IndexedDB error works in Safari.
