Forgot passwords, with the new Yubikey Bio you can use your fingerprint to log into online services.
Swedish security company Yubico has released a new version of its Yubikey security key and for the first time supports fingerprint login.
The key can be used for second factor login for increased security, or for completely passwordless login for all services that support FIDO2/WebAuthn and FIDO U2F security standards. This means that the keys work on most major platforms, including Google, Microsoft, and Facebook.
Your fingerprint is stored on the physical security key in a separate chip for increased physical security. The user can set and manage the fingerprints that are stored via the Yubico Authenticator app, and also needs to specify a PIN as a backup in case the fingerprint reading fails.
The Yubikey Bio series is available in two variants, one connected via USB a and the other connected via USB c, each costing 80 and 85 euros. Biometric keys work on Windows, macOS, Chrome OS, and Linux, but do not support mobile devices.
