The first gastronomic effect of Brexit is coming. The United Kingdom plans to ban the importation of foie gras, a product considered to be against animal welfare, outside the European General Market.
Although foie gras production has already been banned in the United Kingdom since 2006 for violating animal welfare legislation (due to excess food in ducks or geese, which accumulate fat in the liver), its import was still practiced by member countries because the country was part of the European Common Market Products that are legally manufactured and sold in other member countries cannot be rejected.
Now that Brexit is already in place, UK lawmakers have a free hand to ban imports of the product, a spokesman for the Ministry of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said: “The government has made it clear that the production of foie gras from ducks or ducks, using compulsory food , Raises serious concerns, and the practice is systematically banned in the UK. At present, the government is exploring new steps that can be taken in relation to Foy Cross. ”
The United Kingdom imports about 200 tons of this famous product of French descent each year.
