No thanks to the pound and pint. The British government is abandoning plans to return to imperial measurements as an alternative to the metric system in trade.
The reason is that nearly 99 percent of 100,938 respondents in a large survey say they are satisfied with metric measurement when buying or selling goods.
“After careful consideration, the government has decided to refrain from amending the law at this time,” a statement from the Ministry of Economic Affairs said.
The plan is to reintroduce the imperial system of measurement after Britain leaves the European Union. The department believes its use is “closely related to our culture and our language”. Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke fondly of the system, which he considered “ancient freedom”.
Beer and milk are still sold by the pint in England.
According to Wikipedia, the metric system continues to be used in business and research in Great Britain, while the imperial system of measurement is often used in everyday contexts.
