Two years ago, Tesla announced a major update to its premium models, the Model S and Model X. In this regard, deliveries were temporarily suspended while Tesla adjusted production.
First deliveries began in summer 2021 in North America, and in late 2022 to other global markets, including Sweden. But some markets exited. Among others, countries like Great Britain and Australia have left-hand traffic.
These countries had to wait until Tesla began manufacturing right-hand drive variants of the Tesla Model S and Model X. Now Tesla is announcing that it won’t do that.
In the UK, customers who buy a “locally incorrect” left-hand drive Tesla Model S or Model X are now offered:
– Model S and Model X are available for delivery in the UK in left-hand drive, Tesla writes briefly on its UK site.
At the same time, customers who have pre-ordered a Tesla Model S or Model X in Australia with left-hand drive vehicles have been informed that they will not be delivering the models at this time.
– Due to recent changes in the vehicle program, the Model S will not be available as a right-hand drive. Tesla wrote to its Australian customers that unfortunately, your order cannot be fulfilled and will be cancelled The Driven reports.
The reason behind Tesla not offering the Tesla Model S and Model X as right-hand drive cars is more complicated:
– By offering both models in the future as left-hand drive only, it will be possible to streamline production and improve quality, Autocar reported.
