Valve previously talked about enabling seamless saving of game files between their upcoming mobile devices and other PCs. The idea and the idea behind it all was that it should suffice to put the Steam Deck into power-saving mode in the middle of a game session, and then choose the game elsewhere. Everything is designed as extended functionality much like, for example, what the Nintendo Switch offers, where users can put the game console to sleep and then continue right where the last game session ended.
A new save function has now been developed and named, Dynamic Cloud Saving. According to Valve, the functionality should be just as seamless as intended, the only end user needing to do is put the Steam Deck to sleep. Then all the saved data from the game is automatically uploaded to the cloud in the background. It should then be just a matter of starting the game on any device and continuing from there.
However, there is an advantage with this feature. In a blog post geared towards developers, Valve . announces Developers That functionality must currently be implemented for each individual game to get full functionality. However, it should be as simple as activating the feature in the developer menu, if the game already supports Steam Cloud Save.
Valve also says that Steam Deck continues to save user game sessions even without this feature turned on, but a warning message appears if Dynamic Cloud Save is not enabled. The warning message asks the user to stop the game from running on Steam Deck and not just put the console to sleep, to continue on another device.
Steam Deck has yet to arrive with those who are number one in the queue. Those who want to pre-book the console will have to wait a while today, as not all reservations made now will be delivered until the second half of 2022 at the earliest.
