Bilateral cooperation

Finland

Sweden and Finland have similar security policies. The two countries want to deepen already extensive cooperation in the field of defense. Sweden cooperates with Finland in bilateral and existing multilateral forums such as Nordic Security Cooperation Nordefco, EU, UN and NATO.

United States

Cooperation with the United States is based on the Declaration of Objectives (Declaration of Objectives) signed in 2016, which include aimed at expanding cooperation in operational, fitness and training, material cooperation, research and development and international activities.

UK

Cooperation with the United Kingdom aims to enhance the utilization and development of countries’ defense capabilities. Denmark

Cooperation with Norway is carried out mainly within the framework of Nordego, as well as trilateral cooperation between Sweden, Norway and Finland.

France

The Swedish Armed Forces’ cooperation with France is primarily through Swedish participation in Operation Bergen Task Force Takuba in Mali.

Netherlands

The Netherlands contributes one personnel officer to the Nordic Center for Gender (NCGM) in military operations and participates in the Centre’s steering committee.

Poland

The Armed Forces continue to work to maintain and enhance the level of bilateral security cooperation with Poland.

Germany

Epidemic has limited cooperation with Germany in 2021, and the Armed Forces are focused on resuming work in the fall of 2021.

Multilateral cooperation

NATO

Sweden’s cooperation with NATO is central to national security capability and the ability to work with others in the immediate area or outside. Provides access to partnership methods and technology and qualified training and fitness activities with NATO. All of these areas contribute to national capacity building and the creation of strong defenses. Sweden has Enhanced Opportunities Partner (EOP) status within NATO, which is offered on a three-year basis to selected partner countries.

EU

The Armed Forces continue to participate in EU crisis management and training efforts, which contribute to peace and security in the countries and territories concerned and enhance the overall European military capability.

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania

Cooperation with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania focuses on exchange of experience and training and fitness cooperation. This cooperation has contributed to the maintenance of military strategic activity with the Baltic states and has had a positive impact on the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces.

United Nations (UN)

Cooperation with the UN aims to deepen and expand knowledge about the UN system and to contribute experience and expertise to enhance UN crisis management capabilities. UN Sweden’s involvement with the Armed Forces in operations has a long history.

Joint Venture Force (JEF)

This collaboration is led by the United Kingdom and aims to develop the ability to carry out joint activities and activities. The cooperation includes Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Iceland from 2021.

Structure Countries (FNC)

Cooperation within the FNC is led by Germany and covers various projects in various areas such as health, CBRN, civil-military cooperation, logistics and many more.

Nordic Security Cooperation – Nordeco

Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)

During the Swedish Presidency of OSCE 2021, the Swedish delegation in Vienna was strengthened with two military advisers, as well as a military adviser to the Tripartite Liaison Committee in Minsk.
