Ukraine says no to NATO members – current focus

Ukraine’s president has announced that he will not apply to join NATO. Announced at a meeting with countries including Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Last week, both the Swedish and Finnish governments announced that the Nordic countries would not apply to join the NATO military alliance. Now Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky has announced that Ukraine will not apply for NATO membership. It has made headlines in many international media.

Volodymyr Zhelensky announced the country’s position on the NATO issue during a digital meeting with the leaders of the UK Joint Travels Force, an international naval force led by the United Kingdom. During a meeting on Tuesday morning, Zhelensky made it clear that the Ukrainian people did not trust NATO support and that the country would not be eligible to become a NATO member in the future.

“Ukraine is not a member of NATO. We understand that. We have heard for many years that the door is open, but we have heard that we can not join. This is a fact and must be acknowledged, and our people are beginning to realize it, and I am pleased to trust ourselves and our allies to help us.” Said Volodymyr Zhelensky.

Volodymyr Zhelensky’s NATO message has been one of the basic demands of Putin’s regime in Ukraine. It remains to be seen whether this message will be enough for peace talks or a ceasefire.
