During Boxing Day, new restrictions come into effect in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Nightclubs have closed, distance requirements have been introduced and the number of visitors in bars is limited, Sky News reports.
However, the restrictions introduced as variable omicron differences in Great Britain do not apply in England – where the Politburo chose instead to discuss possible measures only after the Christmas holidays had ended.
In Scotland, residents are required to maintain a distance of at least 1 meter from each other during large events, and a maximum of 100 people standing are allowed to attend indoor public events. For seated events, a maximum of 200 people applies.
In Wales, the number of participants allowed is narrower, with a maximum of 30 people allowed in indoor events and 50 people in outdoor events.
In Northern Ireland, all indoor events are prohibited. From Monday, a maximum of six people are allowed at the same party – or ten people if they are from the same household – in bars, cafes and restaurants. Furthermore, it is recommended that Northern Irish people limit their social gatherings to a maximum of three families.
Corrected: In an earlier version of the text there was an incorrect description of the restrictions on Northern Ireland.
