“I have a long-term injury to my right arm, which means I can’t play,” Peterson tells SVT Sport.
She has been sidelined for a year due to injury and has not played since the US Open in late August.
It’s a huge loss when 103rd-ranked Peterson is out.
– We will continue to build on the belief and feeling that we can overcome everyone basically. Although Rebecca has rejected it now, this conviction and belief in ourselves is still alive, says union captain Johanna Larsson.
Peterson hopes to be back soon.
“Hopefully I can start competing again on November 27, but I’ll take it week by week,” says Peterson.
There is disappointment at not being able to take part in the team competition formerly known as the Fed Cup, the women’s equivalent of the David Cup.
“It was not a difficult decision”
– It was not a difficult decision because I said from the beginning that I would not run unless I recovered 100 percent, and I am not. “I didn’t have any options, but I’m definitely disappointed not to be able to attend,” says Peterson, who hopes to overcome the injury problem.
– Looking at the whole year, there were two months that I feel like I was good at and the positive thing is that I got two months of something good. I couldn’t be more happy with the rest.
Next year will be packed with the Olympic Games in Paris as spice to the regular competition programme.
-My biggest goal ever is to be able to play for a full calendar year, and if I succeed in that, I can reach other goals. The Olympics are on our mind, yes.
