That’s the lead for the team, which includes players from Europe outside England and Ireland, after the first day of the new Hero Cup tournament. Alexander Noran and Belgium’s Thomas Pieters had a good one-hole victory in their first four-ball match against Ireland’s Shane Lowry and England’s Tommy Fleetwood. . Before the final hole, the score was all square, but once there, Noran, alone with the ball, managed to make a birdie on the par-five.

– In the middle of the round I played decently but it was a struggle all day. It felt good to get up and down the last hole for the win. Thomas played a great first nine and hit shots when needed at the end, which was really good, Noren said after the match.
Dane Nicolai Hoygaard stepped in for his injured twin brother Rasmus, sharing the game with team captain Italian Francesco Molinari against Scotsman Evan Ferguson and England’s Richard Mansell. Frenchman Antoine Rosner and Belgium’s Thomas Dedry defeated Hatton/Smith 2-0, while Italians Guido Micliosi/Vigor Perez and Englishmen Shinquin and Wallace split the match. The only win for Great Britain/Ireland came in Friday’s final when Irishman Seamus Power and Scots Robert MacIntyre defeated Sepp Straka and Adrian Meronk 4/3.
At the end of the first day, the European team leads 3-2.
On Saturday, two tournament rounds are played with five four-a-side matches and the Hero Cup concludes on Sunday with ten singles matches.
