Just days after a big event Redmi Note 11 leaked Next reveal cheap mobileXiaomi, like its Pro siblings, has confirmed that the affordable mobile duo will be officially launched on October 28.
They uploaded a teaser for the devices on the Chinese social media platform WeiboThe official Redmi account also shared an image of one of the mobiles, as you can see above. Redmi Note 11 or 11 Pro appears, which is completely different from Redmi Note 10 in a key area.
The text that comes with the image describes “six major feature changes” for the new mobile phones, so there are likely to be upgrades in six important areas. The design is clearly one of those aspects, and we can imagine the chipset is different (according to the aforementioned leak), but we’ll have to wait until the end of October to see what the others might be.
The image shows a mobile phone with three cameras on the back, a 3.5mm headphone jack and JBL tuned speakers (note the small JBL logo on top). The exciting design decision we mentioned earlier is also evident – it looks as if the phone will have flat edges.
Following in the footsteps of the iPhone
with iPhone 12In the series, Apple made the unusual decision to give its phones flat edges, which made them more uncomfortable to hold in the hand, a design choice that harkens back to old, stocky and clumsy cell phones.
But Xiaomi seems to be heading in the same direction, as the edges of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 have the same flat design. This is something the Motorola Edge 20 series also did earlier in 2021.
So what is the reason for this change? It’s hard to tell – all of these companies have probably bought shares in bladder patch companies and therefore want to make sure that consumers have achy hands.
It’s probably easier to create flat edges on a mobile phone, or make it more durable – but most people still protect their devices with covers and cases. But it’s the hardware corners that tend to be the weakest areas, so this design change may protect them.
A more pessimistic – but perhaps realistic – theory is that these brands are copying the idea simply because Apple did it. I got the feeling that the Apple clones looked a bit like the Xiaomi thing in their early years – just compare Redmi 5A With iPhone 6 A few years ago.
Anyway, this appears to be a growing trend in mobile phones – something our hands weren’t really happy with – but we may see more companies doing the same in the future.
