It looks like Microsoft's investment in AI will continue to pay off with the discovery of a new and better battery material.
Cooperation between Microsoft and American The research institute PNNL (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory) has led to Discovery of a new battery material. The material is said to make the batteries safer and more durable than current lithium-ion batteries. The new material is a type of solid electrolyte that uses less lithium and more sodium.
This discovery was made using the Azure Quantum Elements platform Which combines high-performance computing and artificial intelligence. It initially concluded that there were 32 million potential battery materials, but after several filtering and simulation runs, only 23 promising materials remained. The total time the platform needed to do all this was only 80 hours.
Researchers have since succeeded in producing an effective battery From one of the suggested articles. But it will take a lot of work to test and improve it. This new battery is said to reduce the risks of overheating and fires compared to current liquid batteries. It would also reduce the need for lithium, which is increasingly used in electric car batteries.
