MG launches two electric cars: a truly spacious station wagon and a high-performance SUV

MG is today introducing two new electric cars that will be launched later this year. The first to be launched was the MG Marvel R Electric electric utility vehicle. This is followed by the “world’s first fully electric station wagon”.

When we relaunched the British brand MG under the flag of our parent company SAIC Motors, we promised European drivers to make electric mobility available for young drivers at heart and ready to embrace a new electric lifestyle, says Matt Lee, CEO of MG Drive Europe.

With the new MG Marvel R Electric and MG5 Electric, we’re introducing two next-generation battery-electric vehicles that meet the demands of the most discerning European drivers, continues Matt Lee.

The MG Marvel R Electric has been described as “the coveted lifestyle SUV with performance”. The driveline consists of an all-wheel drive system with three electric motors: one on the front axle and two on the rear axle. Total maximum power is 212 kW (288 hp) and MG writes that the Marvel R can handle 0-50 km/h in 1.8 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 200 km / h.

The range is set at more than 400 kilometers. The model also gets, for us Nordborough, a heat pump that keeps the range in the cold. Fast charging should be possible up to 80 percent in 30 minutes. Home charging should be possible with up to 11 kW using the built-in three-phase charger. In addition, the model gets V2L, to be able to charge mobile devices such as computers, electric bikes or even other electric cars.

The volume of the rear luggage compartment is 357 liters, and when the rear seats are folded down, their volume is 1396 liters. Furthermore, there is a rear-wheel drive option that also offers a complementary 150kg of space under the hood. Marcel R also gets a 750kg pull rod.

Inside, MG has created an abstract interior design with a 19.4-inch floating touchscreen display. The instrument panel 12.3 is also a digital display.
