Lewis Hamilton has been knighted in Britain – Prime Minister Boris Johnson is said to have worked to honor the F1 champion

Formula 1’s greatest ever winner – and now honored too. Lewis Hamilton honored by Great Britain at the turn of the year.

In November, Lewis Hamilton claimed his seventh Formula 1 World Championship and just before Christmas he was named Sports Personality of the Year in his native Great Britain by the BBC.

In the new year, Hamilton receives the following honors for his efforts on and off the Formula 1 tracks. He is knighted and can call himself “sir” in the future.

According to the Reuters news agency, there was a big question mark surrounding Hamilton’s veneration. It was registered in Monaco for tax reasons, but British media say that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has personally worked with Hamilton to be honored for his sporting achievements.

Hamilton is statistically the best Formula 1 driver of all time with 95 GP victories and 98 pole positions. In number of titles, he touched Michael Schumacher’s record this season.

Lewis is a giant in our sport and his influence is huge both on and off the car. New F1 boss Stefano Domenicali says what he has achieved is amazing and there is more to come.

Reuters said Hamilton is one of the few British athletes to be knighted while he is still active. The others are Alastair Cook (cricket), Bradley Wiggins (cycling), Mo Farah (athletics) and Andy Murray (tennis).

– Great Britain can be very proud to have a champion and ambassador like Sir Lewis Hamilton, says Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff.
