Kroos: “One of the toughest gatherings this year”

This week’s World Rally Championship in Sardinia, Italy, is the fifth sub-competition of the year. Sebastien Ogier, Toyota, is chasing his third win of the year. The Frenchman has seven World Cup titles to lean on and leads the series this year. Elvin Evans, Great Britain, won the last race in Portugal, when Ogier was third. Stablemate Evans is second in the overall compilation.

– The result in Portugal was positive, although I was not happy with our speed. But it was the first time we’ve been driving the new tires on gravel and hopefully we’ll get to really benefit from it this week, says the Frenchman.

“I thrive in Sardinia”

Pre-talk about Ogier and Spaniard Dani Sordo, who finished second in Portugal. Sordo, in a Hyundai, is chasing his third win in a row in Sardinia where he has won the past two years.

The Italian World Rally Championship is expected to be hot, over thirty degrees in the shade on the dirt roads of Sardinia.

One of the three toughest gatherings of the year. Loose, broken, dusty and 60 degree hot stones in cars. A challenge for both drivers and cars, says Jonas Kroes who believes Ogier is having a tough time as he leads the World Cup Series and therefore starts first and tracks down.

‘big flaw’

Starting first would be a big drawback. The surface is as loose as a sandy beach and I’m not sure Ogier will end up in the top three.

– Hyundai cars look better than Toyota cars, so I believe more in a driver like Ott Tänak (Estonia). Or Dani Sordo, but it’s hard to win three years in a row.
