iOS 16 will be revealed in June – that’s all we know so far

Apple always shows off its major annual updates for its operating system during WWDC in June. No platform is bigger or more important to Apple and its users than the iPhone. After iOS 15, we expect iOS 16 to add a lot of new features, but without drastic design changes.

Remember, there’s nothing official until we hear back from Apple, but rumors about upcoming iOS features tend to leak all the time. Here’s what we’ve heard about iOS 16 so far.

Notices

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iOS 16 . will be introduced Amazing changes How to handle notifications. Site 9to5Mac You think the changes also include improvements to Focus Mode.

AR/VR . functions

Gurman also writes that early versions of iOS 16 (codenamed Sydney) contain several references to Apple’s upcoming mixed reality headset. However, Apple is not expected to reveal a headset at WWDC, it is likely that there will be no features visible to users. What we can see instead are significant improvements to the Arkit framework for developers.

New health features

iOS 16 will allegedly have new health features, even if the focus isn’t entirely for iOS. What we’re really expecting are new health and fitness features in Watch OS for the Apple Watch and possibly some features exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 8, which is expected to launch in the fall.

However, it was rumored that iOS 15 would have some kind of feature to track food or nutrients, which never happened. Maybe it wasn’t ready in time, and instead would be part of iOS 16?

always on screen

Even before the launch of the iPhone 13, it was rumored that Apple would finally implement a screen that always displays the time, dates, and notifications. Something that obviously didn’t happen, but it also doesn’t have to be related to new hardware. Any OLED screen can handle an always-on function, which means many iPhone models: Iphone X, XS, XS Max, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max and all iPhone 12 and 13 models. Rumors of an always-on display may be a feature of iOS 16 .

IOS 16: Wish List

We have earlier I compiled a list More of the features we want to see more of in iOS 16, including interactive widgets, improvements to Siri and the new Home app. We don’t know if all (or some) of the wishes will come true, but we can dream.

IOS 16: Compatible Devices

We expect iPhones 7 and later to be able to run iOS 16, although some features require new hardware (which is common).

IOS 15 was compatible with all phones that supported iOS 14, from Iphone 6s and first generation Iphone SE. However, it seems reasonable that Apple will try to support phones with the A9 chip, which means that iOS 16 only works with A10 or better processors. This means that iOS 16 will support devices that are six years old, which is great compared to the age of the Android camp.

IOS 16: Release Date

Apple will definitely show iOS 16 at WWDC on June 6, 2022. There is usually a developer beta available either on the same day or later in the same week. The first public beta is usually released a few weeks later, possibly in late June or early July.

The official launch always takes place in the fall, usually in September coinciding with the release of the new iPhone.
