Herman was born in Eindhoven, Netherlands. He became interested in athletics at an early age. Hermane was active, but his true talent would prove to be the ability to motivate others to act at the absolute highest level.
After completing her studies in Germany (Sports University, Cologne), Hermann moved to Sweden in 1967 to marry Ulla Oberk. In 1968, two young sports teachers took a vacation to travel around South America. In the usual Herman style, the next challenge would begin immediately and Ulla’s disc training (Swedish Championship Gold 1971-1975) began aboard on the way home from South America.
Back in Sweden, Herman had the opportunity to create followers at Jankoping’s AIF, which attracted national attention. As a result of the victories the highlights of the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and the 1980 Moscow Games and the role of the national team captain increased.
In 1980, Herman was appointed captain of the Netherlands national team. With the victory at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Herman was able to take Dutch athletics to new heights.
In 1985, the family moved to Kiruna, where Ulla began her new career as a doctor. It’s time to focus on new professional experiences and life balance. As an avid fisherman, Hermann spent time at sea and in a summer home in Norway without seeing Fijord. From northern Sweden, Herman and Ullah emigrated to Scan in 2004. There, living by throwing a stone from the golf course, Herman was able to pursue his latest passion.
An eternal coach, loving father and mother-in-law, he was ultimately inspired by his vision of life and his ability to capture the day.
