Two newcomers to the 2024 Hockey World Cup, Great Britain and Poland, have been eliminated from the First Division. This is clear after Monday's matches in the Czech Republic.
On Monday, the two elimination matches of the 2024 Hockey World Cup were almost completely played. Norway and Great Britain met in Group A in the morning, where the Norwegians made history briefly and took the three points. Norway is thus ready to play in the top division next year. Great Britain, on the other hand, have zero points in Group A and even if they get three points against Austria tomorrow, they cannot save themselves. The British will play in the B-VM (Division 1A) next year.
The same goes for another newcomer to WC: Poland this year. In Sweden's group, the Poles played Kazakhstan in a head-to-head match with Poland leading the way. However, three straight goals from Kazakhstan spelled danger for newcomers Poland, who lost 3-1. With one point in Group B and no games yet to be played, Poland will also be out of the A World Cup for games in Group B until the 2024/25 season (World Cup 2025). So neither country will make it to the 2025 Hockey World Cup next year in Stockholm and Herning.
