Inventor and founder of
Dyson, Sir James Dyson, has purchased what is said to be not only Singapore’s
most expensive penthouse flat but also its largest and highest.
Local sources say that Dyson has paid $73.8m Singapore dollars (around £43.3m) for a three story, 21,000 sq ft flat in the city state’s Wallich Residence within the Guoco Tower. The purchase price exceeds the $60m Singapore dollars paid by Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin for a flat here in 2017.
When it comes to property investment, Dyson is notable for his large portfolio of UK agricultural land – he has been described as ‘Britain’s biggest farmer’. However, Dyson is in the process of relocating his company HQ to Singapore, in a move which is reported as being to take the company closer to its main future markets. This, together with the fact that Singapore is one of the world’s most expensive places to buy property – and hardly known for its real estate bargains – would suggest that Dyson has bought this superlative property principally for living rather than for its investment potential.
