Eight sports, including skiing, will be involved in nearly 300 million kroner until the 2026 Winter Olympics. But now GB Snowsport has declared skiing as non-investable for the highest level of funding from UK sports, it has reported BBC.
– It is very disappointing that UK Sport has canceled the funding – both for us now and for future Alpine winners from Great Britain, says Charlie Guest in a video.
The video, in which Dave Riding, Billy Major, Laurie Taylor and Charlie Raposo spoke on the skaters’ social media, was posted.
“We’ve all come out on the world stage with record results over the past year,” said Riding, who claimed Britain’s first World Cup victory in January of this year.
The five alpine skiers now believe they need to raise nearly 10 million crowns over the next eight weeks in order to continue their training.
GB Snowsport says it is eagerly looking at other options to continue its training programmes, according to the BBC.
UK Sport explains its decision by saying it “aims to become an even stronger force in winter sports, while building a wide range of sports and champions that reflect the diversity of British society”.
