Chelsea qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals

Big chaos behind the scenes with a clear risk of bankruptcy.

But Chelsea, who were afraid not to attend the match tonight, reached the Champions League quarter-finals.

The London club won the second leg tonight at its host Lille.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine had consequences for Chelsea.

English club owner Roman AbramovichIts assets in the United Kingdom have been frozen.

Chelsea, an oligarch’s asset, is not allowed to buy or sell players, doesn’t sell match tickets and only allows travel costs for overseas matches with a maximum of SEK 250,000.

It has long been uncertain whether the Premier League giants can play tonight in the Champions League against Lille, but the start can finally be carried out.

Turned the game

Then it was the French who tied their fists to the match.

Chelsea looked shaky at the start and shortly before the break, Lille broke the zero goal when Burak Yilmaz scored 1-0 on penalties.

But before the referee exploded the inning, in overtime, Christian Pulisic was able to level the score.

In the second half, Lille had just a solid nod at the post from reclaiming the lead, but soon thereafter Cesar Azpilicueta pushed Chelsea into the quarter-finals by setting the final score 2-1 in the 71st minute.

What will happen now?

A glimmer of light in the dark for the London club, but despite the progress, there are still a number of different concerns.

UEFA’s legal department will be in contact with UEFA on issues indicating the possible expulsion of Chelsea from the tournament.

But if the club is still allowed to continue playing: how will they pay for overseas trips across Europe?

– Azpilicueta told BT Sport: – We can only focus on what we can influence, to train as much as possible and prepare for the match.
