An inspiring start but a difficult end – Oliver Helander takes seventh place in the javelin final – Sports – svenska.yle.fi

It looked very promising. Oliver Helander opened the javelin final with a powerful throw of over 83 metres. Then it was the end of the fun for Helander, who finished seventh.

Oliver Helander’s first throw promised a lot. Spear landed at 83.38 and felt he had more to offer.

It’s gone the other way. The second throw still flew more than 80 meters, but then it was difficult for him. After three intentional overtakes, he advanced to the final round but 82.85 was not enough.

-The first throw was good, but then for some reason it became difficult. Maybe I tried too hard. There were chances for anything today, but the shots were bad after the first few shots, Helander tells Elle.

However, Oliver Helander has improved from last year in Eugene. Then he threw 82.24 and was eighth. In Budapest he finished seventh with a time of 83.38.

– It is a step forward, despite seventh place. Helander says next year presents a new opportunity.

Preferred to take gold

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra was the favorite to push. Chopra bowled 88.17 in the second round and the competition was unable to match it. Pakistani Arshad Nadeem came close, but settled for the silver medal with a time of 87.82.

– This means a lot to me. After qualifying, I thought it would be possible to set a personal best in the final, but it didn’t work out that way, but gold is the only thing that really matters, says Chopra.

World No. 1 Jakub Vadlej had six throws of 82 meters – and in the fifth round he scored 86.67, giving the Czechs the bronze medal.

Julian Weber, who was Germany’s last hope of breaking the German medal record in Budapest, came in fourth place with a time of 85.79 seconds.

India is by far the best country in the world for men’s javelin throwing at present. Three Indian bowlers were in the top six in the final. Chopra took gold, Kishore Jena came in fifth and DP Manu in sixth.
