In recent years, Amazon has made large investments in renewable energy. According to the company, by 2022, 90 percent of Amazon’s electricity used worldwide will come from renewable energy sources. And more to come.
The goal is for Amazon’s operations, including Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers, Amazon distribution centers and physical stores, to be powered by 100 percent renewable energy by 2025.
To get there, the internet giant is now making another big investment with 37 new projects in Europe. including a new wind farm in Likkas, Sweden
600 jobs created
With the new wind farm, Amazon increases the total capacity for renewable energy in Sweden to 786 MW. At the same time, the company estimates that it has invested around 1 billion Swedish kroner in renewable energy projects in the country with the latest investment. More than 600 full-time jobs should have been created.
In addition to the wind farm in Lyckås, Amazon’s latest projects include rooftop solar panels in Belgium, France, Italy, Spain and the UK. New wind and solar projects in Finland, Germany, Greece, Spain and Great Britain.
With more than 160 wind and solar projects in Europe, Amazon helps provide clean energy to local grids, create jobs and support local businesses. At the same time, we are on track to run our business on 100 percent renewable energy by 2025, says Lindsay McQuade, responsible for energy issues in EMEA at Amazon.
