The laser man destroyed Sweden then. And during that time, people were doing laser pointers, especially those with skinned heads, and I always thought it was a scary thing, says Alan Darburg and continues:
– So I was very late and I was going for a walk with my girlfriend at that time and I was going to have children. There we sat in a mountain hut while it was snowing and I thought: What if someone came and pointed us with a laser scope now.
Alan Darburg previously directed the TV series Alex and Jönsson League to be the perfect shocker, but when he was unemployed he and screenwriter Per Dickson wrote a feature film script around the idea.
Red dot portrays the locals with a somewhat suspicious appearance. Alain Darborg was inspired by similar films, setting the big city against the countryside.
– We wanted to play with bias. The idea that the first half of the movie should be like The Last Journey and Lake Eden, is that we’re playing with the genre. He then takes a major turn and instead becomes a Korean vengeful role.
Getting her movie on the international streaming service means that she gets a potential audience all over the world. That’s why it was important to make the Swedish Red dot as clear as possible, he says.
– We thought we would show these mountains to a foreign audience. We also wanted the music to be Swedish as it had always been, with Niklas Strömstedt.
The plot is somewhat reminiscent of the Swedish film “Coco de coco da” by Johannes Nyholm, in which a traumatized couple go on a tent vacation and are attacked. Alan Darburg says it’s just a coincidence.
– I haven’t seen “Koko-di koko-da”, so I can’t comment on it. Usually things are in the air.
