The British House of Commons voted today unanimously to recognize and condemn the systematic genocide of the Uyghurs in the Chinese province of Xinjiang. However, the motion approved by the House of Representatives does not compel Britain to take action, but is an indication of growing discontent with the Chinese government.
Not entirely unexpectedly, China was not entirely happy with all this and believed that Britain should immediately correct its wrong moves.
“The unwarranted accusation by a group of British MPs that there is a ‘genocide’ in Xinjiang is the most destructive lie of the century, an outrageous insult to the Chinese people, and a flagrant violation of international law and basic norms of international relations.
China firmly opposes the apparent British interference in China’s internal affairs.”
Other countries that have recognized the genocide in China are the Netherlands, Canada, and the United States. In Sweden, representatives from six student political unions wrote a few weeks ago discussion article It is believed that Sweden and the European Union should recognize and condemn the Uyghur genocide.
