New documents show how former US President Donald Trump and his allies tried to persuade the Department of Justice to stand behind Trump’s false allegations about fraud in the 2020 presidential election that won Joe Biden.
It is the House Oversight and Reform Committee that obtained the documents from the Ministry of Justice.
These include emails Trump sent via his aide to Jeffrey Rosen, who was about to take over as acting attorney general, according to the New York Times. The newspaper wrote that one of the emails contained, for example, documents allegedly showing election fraud in Michigan, the same documents that were rejected by a federal judge a week ago.
“These documents show how President Trump has sought to manipulate our nation’s highest law enforcement agency in a brazen attempt to reverse a loss he has lost,” Democrat Carolyn Maloney, chair of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, said in a statement.
“Unapologetic writer. Bacon enthusiast. Introvert. Evil troublemaker. Friend of animals everywhere.”
