The Republican group in Britain, which wants to abolish the monarchy, wrote in a statement: “The monarchy has just suffered its worst crisis since the abdication in 1936. Whether for Britain or for the heirs to the throne, this corrupt institution must disappear.”

At the same time, many people believe the accusations are unfair to the Queen, and consider the statement a betrayal of the royal family.
