The United Kingdom, India, and the United States have maintained the Astra Zeneca vaccine in the country, rather than launching the doses in Europe. From the UK, not a single dose of vaccine has been delivered to the European Union – the other way around, the number is over ten million.

In the United States, President Joe Biden said he is not allowing the Swedish-British pharmaceutical giant to resell tens of millions of doses to Europe, despite the fact that the formulation has not yet been approved in the country.

The conflict escalated further

This really angered the leaders of the European Union. Within the union, there were demands to respond in the same currency and impose an export ban.

And now the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is raising the tone.

– We have the opportunity to stop the planned export. Our message to Astra Zeneca is: To fulfill your contract with Europe before it begins delivery to other countries, according to Agence France-Presse.

Bergstrom: “It’s dangerous”

Swedish vaccination coordinator Richard Bergstrom warned that the export ban only creates more problems for the vaccination campaign, which has already been tried due to the delay.

Astra Zeneca vaccine is not currently used in Sweden. The Swedish Public Health Agency is expected to announce its continuation next week, after a hiatus that began due to suspicions of serious side effects.
