The European Indoor Championships was set in Toru in early March and was the first international athletics tournament in more than a year due to the Corona pandemic.
After returning to each country, a number of athletes tested positive for the Coronavirus.
“Everyone is mixed up”
According to the Dutch Federation, eight athletes have tested positive since returning home – and they accuse the organizer of not following the restrictions.
The athletes had to go to the hotel in a coach dedicated to the team, but everyone got confused about it, which was not strange because it was very cold and no one wanted to wait that long, says Ad Roskam, coach of the Dutch Federation to Insidethegames .
Britain also recorded ten positive cases after returning from the Polish city. According to Insidethegames, they had been in contact with UEFA and criticized flawed actions during the tournament.
In addition, four Ukrainian and French athletes were infected, while the Irish athletes have been quarantined since the travel company members tested positive.
Criticize the test
Several athletes were suspended during the tournament after testing positive for covid-19. The Polish men’s relay team withdrew in the 4 × 400 meters after the Corona outbreak, as did local sprinter Iowa Soboda.
Belgian runner Eileen Berings came out publicly and criticized the test in the ring after he was forced to withdraw from the semifinals by 60 meters due to an incorrect test result.
According to Insidethegames, the Tokyo Olympics organizer is looking into measures to prevent incorrect test results during the Summer Games.
